i agree with RR again, not a fan of the powder brown though. purple tang is gorgeous, chevron is really neat looking, the sohal and hippo are probably my favorites

For Tangs the key component is going to be the size of your tank. You are going to have a very difficult time keeping more then 1 species of Tang in any tank under 55 gallons. Important to not get Tangs of similar shape ( oval vs teardrop ) or color. Tangs are possibly the most mistreated fish in the hobby. They need tremendous amounts of algae in their diet and are considered ick magnets unless the water quality is kept excellent. I have a Red Sea Sailfin Tang in my one tank that I absolutely love. As for the Puffers, they also can be a difficult fish to maintain in the home aquarium. The easiest to keep is probably a Valenti puffer.

While i love alot of the tangs mentioned, the powders are expensive and not very hardy. They are correct about size of the tank, they need alot of space. The naso is really cool, is reasonably priced and hardy too. I have not done this yet, but the prices for fish on the internet are significantly cheaper even taking into account the shipping.

All those tangs reef ranger said are extremely pretty, but are hard to keep. And yes, you will need a large tank for these fish.

reakky a rule of thumb is that you should put any puffers togther they always fight, i have a golden puffer, you can see pics of him i posted in the aggressive page, and for tangs i love my yellow, i have pics of him there too. i always wanted a clown, but they are hard to keep.

ranger...is that the real reef ranger...that got po'd a while back and left. well if it is welcome back and lets let bygones be bygones. as for puffers my favorites are guenia(sp?) fowl, golden, regular dogface, porky, sharpnose, valentini, hell i like em all. for tangs i think all of them are pretty, although the prettiest are usually most ich prone. bo

Look at the date of this post it is from Jan 30th. RR is not back. I hate when people pull up old post and we all start talking about it and that person is no longer here or has long since solved the problem.

I do not agree with Ranger on the kind of tangs he suggested. I am assuming you are a beginner, with experience under a year. Stay far away from the Powder Brown as it has a very high mortality rate even in the most expert of hands. Steer clear of the Powder Blue as well. It is highly succeptible to Crypt. Nasos can be touchy at times and way to big at that. Gold Rims are another fish to avoid. A couple of suggestions would be yellow tangs (Watch out for parasites), Purple Tangs if you have the wallet, Atlantic Sailfins, maybe a Hippo (Palette) Surgeon if you want a different shape but be careful of the one you pick. All tangs should display full gullets, full clear fins, no spots of course, and be especially weary of a dusting of black spots on the yellow tangs. A tank of say 5 yellow tangs would be a beautiful site to behold in a 75 gal. You could add a few smaller fish for other colors of course. Make sure to stock in odd numbers as the sailfins especially are territorially and will establish a fascinating hierarchy in the first couple of days after arrival to their new home.

Friends-Hey there. I have a Purple Tang in my 55 gal. reef and she is absolutely gorgeous. Under the "right" lighting it's color is unsurpassed. It has great black designs on her too. Her personality is great and she really doesn't bother the other fish in my tank. Probably my favorite fish in my tank (except my Gold-stripe Maroon clown named Colby). My vote goes to the purple.

I was at the lfs on saturday and seen a Chevron Tang. It is so pretty, I was amazed. I always thought the naso was the prettiest, well the chevron is right with it.

Has anyone ever heard of a masked puffer. I saw a picture of one of them. They sure look cool, but hard to find.
