what are these markings on my kole tang!!!

hey everyone, i just bought a kole tang the other day ive had it for about a week, and 2 days ago i noticed these markings on the side of him, it looks like he might of rubbed up on a rock to hard or something maybe attacked him?hes picking at hair algae in picture. tank is 75 gallon. picture is in attachment. any replies would help alot thanks!

is the area swollen?
might just be a bruise from a rock my achilles has a half inch bruise healing up now.
tangs bruise easily.

deejeff, it looks popped out a little bit im not sure if its a bruise tho, do you have a picture i can compare it to?

thanks for the reply dazed....you know he hasnt eaten anything besides pickin at sand bed and hair algae we wont touch dried sea weed, is nori a good choice? will he eat formula pellets?

That is Head and Lateral Line Erosion. There is info on this in the FAQ Topic, posted at the top of this forum. It looks like your water quality is good, so you will need to look at other reasons for this to have developed.

My Kole is constantly rubbing against the rocks. He is very busy trying to keep up with his buddy the foxface. He heals up quick though. He is on a very good mixed diet.

you can try, I would try everything you need to get him eating a good diet if you want that to heal up. btw, where did you get him?

What are you offering him? Stay away from flakes and pellets. Nori is a good choice. Use a clip or rubberband some to a rock. Don't add too big of a piece unless he is eating it. It can foul your tank quickly if too much is left uneaten. For the main diet, go with frozen blends or make your own foods(See Beth's FAQ for the recipe). You can buy foods designed for tangs. Rotate Vitchem and Zoecon on the foods.
