They are sponges, filter feeders, good. But my butterflies made short order of them.

oh ok cool how do they get in the tank there werent any until like 3 weeks ago and there under rocks and pretty much every dark spot in tank

The came from your live rock, you be surprise what come out in the future, like tube worms, small snails, star fish, etc.

oh wow do they just grow from the rock ? or have they always been there and just hiding

They are from inside the rock, emerge when conditions are right.
