I have never heard of a sponge causing an ammonia spike
These "HARMLESS" sponges come and go as nutrients become available
I want to hear about this ammonia issue LOL

why wouldn't something dying cause there to be ammonia? If the filter cannot keep up with it then what happens?

i agree, Serpulid polychaete-or worms with tubes(feather dusters)
they are filter feeders and they are safe

If you dont like those feather dusters, get any small puffer/toby, like a sharp nose or valentini, you wont have any more within an hour :)
