What can a good water change do???

What will a good water change do for ich. I've never had a problem with any disease before, but I am positive what my purple tang has ich. As to how he got it, I am clueless. No new additions for like 3-4 months now. Will a water change help this problem?
I aprecciate any help!

well water change won't get rid of it,
hypo will , a water change is not going to hurt u could try some food soaked in garlic or vitamins
is your water outta whack at all that would make him start to stress? how is the trates and ph ?
