What causes Ick

Sorry to ask a basic question. I tried to do a search but all search words need to be at least 4 letters. Don't understand why you can't do a three letter word search.
So what are the cause(s) of ick

Husbandry refers to all of the aspects on caring for the organism. Such as the enviroment you provide, the food you feed- etc.

Can Marine Ick lay dormant in a fish, only showing symptoms once the fish is stressed, or can a fish only get it by being exposed to a new source. (New fish introduction)
I see statements that people have had fish for a while and then the fish get stressed and contract Ick, which suggests it can lay dormant.
