Thanks, Felipe

not really sure. looks like some sort of hydnophora. (SP) the branches are a bit thin however so maybe not.
unmounted mean just like in the picture. a piece of coral unattached to any sort of live rock or substrait.

By the picture, it looks like Acropora muricata, other common names are staghorn or antler coral. Maybe do a search on it .Acro can be expensive around here. That looks like a nice size.i think that price is pretty good.hope that helps :happyfish

i thought that to at first however it you look at the coralites it seems to have large fleshy areas in between instead of individual polyps. a stag would have coralites that each have there own little polyps. i think a better pick would be helpful.
no mater what it is the price seems to be fair. unless your talking about brown digita just about any color sps frag of a few inches or more is worth 20 bucks

I too thought a better picture would help. I see what you mean. I have seen pictures of Acros with the fleshy space like you described. Altough mine is oone on top of the other like typical Acro. Some times the similaries are so close it is so hard to tell them apart.I agree though, its a good deal :joy:

.haha you do realize that you asked what this is and just as i thought it is a hydnophora. it says it right in the description. BTW it is worth the price but it is ANYTHING EXCEPT RARE.
in our LFS's you can get a rather large piece for around 55.00. it needs very intense lighting to keep that color. when polyps are fully ecpanded its a very fleshy coral.

So does that mean you don't think it is worth it for what they are?
And would 2x96 watts ( 1 daylight, 1 actinic) be enough to keep its color?
Thanks! I am learning a lot!

I don't think that would be enough light for good long-term health but it depends on how far up in the tank you put it, how old your lights are, etc.

I dont think that would be enough either, maybe for a short time if you placed near top of tank but it would slowly dieIMO.

nope not enough light. it will lose color and over time fade away
as for its worth well. worth is only up to the value the buyer places on an item
for me no its not worth it. i can ge a 10+" tall and 5+ inch around piece for around 70 bucks just about any time i want around here at the various LFS's. so when you consider i could turn that large piece into about 20 pieces like the one picturedabove no its not a great deal.

maybe I should buy stuff threw you Oceana, cause a piece of that size in Jersey would be$120-$200.Would even be worth the extra shipping. That just goes to show you that it depends where you are,how much something cost :scared:
