Currently undergoing hyposalinity. Everything was going well. All fish eating fine, swimming normal, no scratching, EXCEPT my flamehawk. I actually noticed about 3 weeks prior odd behaviour. hiding a lot and a little dis-colored. I attributed this behaviour to the ich infestation in my tank.
The flamehawk died Sunday. He had this milky substance come out of mouth, then his gills stopped. When I pulled him from main tank & put into fresh water(to throw him away) flukes came out. 1 big fluke and about 4/5 small. I did search "flukes" on this BB so I understand flukes is not contagious. My question is, how in the world should I have known he had flukes. Was this flukes? Did he have something else wrong?
Powder blue & copperband had ich. I don't understand what I did wrong. In a fish magazine it said fish who have flukes treat with FW dips, formalin dips or hyposalinity. I'm treating the tank with hyposalinity.
What did I do wrong?
Just curious on the following:
What are the ill-affects hypo may have on fish?
Are there any? What happens if salinity is too LOW?
PS levels PH 8.2, nitrate 30, nitrite 0, ammonia 0
