What do I do with my Shrooms???

I have a rock with a dozen or so red mushrooms. When I got it, the biggest one was about the size of a half dollar and they were just touching each other.
Well today, they are growing like crazy and they are overlapping each other. Should I do something or will they do it on their own?
If I should do something, what should I do? I am new to this.
Thanks!

I don't do anything with mine. They do fall off at times and then relocate to another area of the tank.

They do fall off and spread like wild-fire after a while. I think especially the reds. I think most every "nook and crevice" in my tank now has some of them growing somewhere. Don't worry about them, someday down the road you may wish thee were a few less of them.... Warren

Yes you basically cannot destroy a mushroom. You can slice it right off the LR either in half or cutting its foot off the LR. Place it just about anywhere you want and it will attach grow and propogate.

These other guys don't know what they are talking about... Here's what you do. Frag them and send them to me

Will having them overlap be a problem?
If you cut them in half, will each half grow round again?
I really am new at this!!!

In a word 'yes'! Overlapping is not a problem for them though.

No, overlapping is not a problem. Remember these corals exist in nature with out any influence from us. You can go in there and frag away as alot of people do. But you can also leave them alone and they will be fine, popping up all over the place.
If you cut them in half each half will form a whole, becoming round again.

Yeah, dont worry about the overlapping. I have about 4 different types in one area of my tank and there are no problems. Sometimes they will slime especially after an h2o change but they dont hurt any neighboring coral. They will overcrowd and fall off and you basically just need to get a piece of rubble, put the shroom on the rubble, stick it in an area of low flow and in about 24 hours or so you have a new home for that shroom. Some people use rubber bands to hold them in place to their new home. Before you know it, if params stay good you will have them everywhere. I now make a run every so often to the lfs and trade shroom heads for whatever. I have blue stripes everywhere!!!

I have found that putting loose ones in a glass with sand on the bottom, then putting it in the tank for a week or two makes it easy then to glue them wherever you want. The sand sticks to their bottom, then you take them out and place on a paper towel to dry a little, add a little super glue gel on the sticking sand and voila! You can then put them on reef plugs, live rock rubble or on your existing live rock where they will start another colony. You can then trade the ones on the reef plugs or rubble to other people for other colors or corals. Have fun!
