ive read a few articles saying that corals need to be given food other thanks calcium and lots of light i just wanted to know what kinds of stuff most people feed thier corals and how often

I have just 5 of them, and put a couple of cap fulls of Phytoplankton in twice a week, not sure if it's any benefit to the corals, but my 2
feather dusters need it.I thought that corals
just need good light.I could be wrong.

i feed my bubble coral and my elagance some frozen squid once a week. it is really funny when i feed my bubble, cause 24 hours later, he 'barfs' up the leftovers. :)
You can watch it LIVE tonight on my webcam- i fed him last night, so he should be barfing sometime around 6-7pm eastern time

My corals are well fed(may be too well fed!!)
In addition to lighting they get dt's phytoplankton 4 times a week....plus I feed a combination of several types of foods to the entire system on even numbered days(today its mysis/krill soaked in zoe)...plus at least twice a week I direct feed several of my corals an assortment of meaty type foods....corals that get direct fed are---green metalic bubble/3 types of furry 'shrooms/2 types of open brains/plate coral/hammer coral/torch coral/yellow polyps/button polyps/black polyps/star polyps/lobo brain/wellsophyllia brain/several sps frags/montipora digitata frag....
I use an assortment of foods that include the following----krill/brine/mysis/blood worms/formulas 1&2/spirulina formula/prime reef/fresh shrimp/fresh scallope/fresh squid/silversides/assorted flake foods...plus most foods are soaked in zoe prior to feeding and I also feed some of the caluperas harvested from my refugium(especially to the yellow tang in my fish only community system.....
Man thats a lot of food and a lot of feeding....no wonder my wife and kids are starving to death!!!!!!!!!!!

My girlfriend often says that the fish and corals eat better than we do. I feed everything from silversides to mysis and krill to clam. I dose phytoplex every other day.

I would feed them phytoplankton a couple of times a week and they should do pretty well with that.

I feed my corals silversides a couple of times a week. I also dose with Kent Phytoplex as directed. I have some smart ones that have their tentacles out on occasion when I'm feeding my fish brine shrimp. I have to stand guard at the tank to make sure the corals are getting their food, though. I have a Powder Brown Tang and a Coral Beauty that just loves to pull the food out of their mouths and watch it float off <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

I too feed an assortment of stuff. Brine shrimp and silversides soaked in Zoe, Blood Worms, Formula One, Marine Quisine, Nori, chopped shrimp and squid. I am now trying to hatch brine shrimp to feed live brine, we will see how it goes. I also feed golden pearls, marine snow, DT's, phytoplex and Coral accell. I rotate these additives with each feeding. Reading this, I guess they eat better than I do!

I dose with phytoplex 3-4 times a week, don't use to much though cause it can raise nitrates. I feed my anemone and open brain coral chopped shrimp 2 a week. I feed my yellow polyps a mix of brine shrimp and phytoplex and I squirt it into their arms with a eye dropper, they love it. Any corals that you have that do not close up, like anemones and brains and polyps do, should be feed some type of phytoplankton, gorgonias and hammer corals and leather corals feed like this. These types of corals filter feed stuff out of the water, use phytoplex, I love mine.

I dose DT's every other day and target feed my open brains after the lights go out with frozen brine once a week.
Everything is happy :)
