actually, you have to tell them yes. if the baggy or whatever breaks, they will throw out the box if it gets wet because they are afraid that there is something toxic inside it.
i just put perishable, liquid (salt water) on the boxes.

My post office knows me so they stopped asking, but they used to ask and I said nothing until one day I had a defective bag leak and they called my house to ask me why my package was leaking-"busted". So now I say there's a little well contained liquid and I label the packages saltwater plants and so far it's all been smooth sailing since.

Had a wet package arrive yesterday, the USDA was there to open the package with me. Tupperware like containers leak! Always mark the package!
Was so embarrassing!

I once Sent a package of frags ( triple bagged then I put all bags inside a large 4mil bag) . USPS arrived at my home around 12:30 am with Encon and a sherriff. They asked me if I shipped a package and what was inside. They informed me that one of thier employees accidently dropped a large Heavy package on my shipment and it cracked the styro cooler and was leaking. I informed tham that it was coral frags and If they took the time to read the package which I always mark "Live coral, saltwater" they could have saved me and themselves a headache. Some people don't bother to do the simplist things Mark your Boxes clearly.... You should have seen the problems I had getting reimbursed for the shipment . Not Fun, Took 11 Months

I always tell them, is a rock and salt water.{true} (they think its maine memorabilia I'm sending to out of state friends) {their own assumption} I explain that it is well packaged and should not leak. I have never had a problem. though I will not send things via USPS again too many delivery headaches.
unless I get the deaf employee he never asks anything. we communicate via hand signals.

I usually use one of the automatic postage calculators. Generally it asks if there is liquid and I select yes, and then it asks it it is over a certain amount, like a gallon or something, so I select no. It has never been a problem, never charged me more for shipping. There is also a question about 'live animals' which just so you know, although corals are actually classified as animals they aren't considered animals by the post office, so just select no.
