what do you all think

I am moving my new (to me) tank in this next weekend. I was thinking about removing the cc while I moved it so any waste stirred up would be disposed along with the cc. My lfs won't have any live sand in for 2 weeks. How bad would it be to have nothing besides lr in the tank with the fish for a week? And would it be bad to add the sand after the tank is set back up and the fish are in it?

Well, I would not recommend taking out all the crushed coral at once. Do it little by little and your levels will not spike. Maybe take out a little section at a time while you are doing a water change..

I have to drain the tank and take the fish and lr out to move it anyway. Wouldn't that be a good time to get rid of the cc? I was thinking of getting most of the water out first then scooping out the cc so the levels of the water wouldn't be effected.

DO not remove all cc or you will have a cycle again which in most cases you will have a mini cycle anyway. You need to keep some so that you keep some of the good bacteria yo also want to try to keep alot of the waater

How large is the tank?
Here is an idea - place the CC in several flat containers, such as tupperware and place those on the bottom of the tank. When the sand comes in, remove 1 container of cc and add the sand (on the bottom of the tank) a week later remove another container and add equal amount of sand, doing this until all the cc is replaced with sand. This will allow the cc to continue to breakdown ammonia and nitrite and also build up the bacteria in the sand that you will be adding.

Phoenix that's a good idea. I am going to keep most of the water (as much as possible). The tank is 80g. It also has 60-80 lbs of lr in it too. None of that will be replaced with new stuff. Just want the cc out. Sand looks so much better.
