ok. so I have been wanting to start a small tank for corals mostly zoas, but with us being in the apartment there isn't much room to do so. I got this idea in my head now. what if I was to make a rectagular box out of acrylic with cuts in it to allow for the tanks water to pass through it? this box would be something like one of those flower pots that people hang from balconies. it would hang off of the back side of the tank and use the lights from the main tank. I am thinking something of a rectangular shape to it. the reason the corals can't be in the main tank is because of the tanks inhabitants (puffer and angel). so, if you have any ideas to add or if you think something wouldn't work or you have seen something like this before I am all ears. sometimes I just get really dumb ideas and need someone to put me in my place.

I don't think hanging this would hurt your tank as long as you are using flex tubing. If you used hard PVC and plumbed everything together with zero tolerances then yes, it might hurt the structure of your tank if it moved any... It sounds like a simple refugium idea. I would just make sure there's no way any fish could get stuck in the intake of whatever pump you decide to use.

well it was going to be hanging inside the tank and the only way for the water to pass would be through the holes that are cut into the acrylic, then a PH to create flow inside the "tank". how would it be hung using the flex tubing?

Oh, I see what you are saying. You are wanting to create a refugium within the tank. I don't see any problem with it... but you will lose valuable roaming space for your other inhabitants. Your puffer and angel need lots of room to swim.

think I have already decided against it now. I realy just want to keep zoas, but they would be really close to the halides

decided I would be better off with a small tank that works on its own. just now I am going to have to wait awhile. the wifes cars AC compressor just went out.
