I buy all of my dry goods online. Especially after this situation: I go into my LFS and ask about pricing on lighting; since I had already been pricing lighting on-line, when he told be 495$ for the Ice Cap 660 w/ harness (not including bulbs), I apparently acted suprised, because he asked, have you found it somewhere else cheaper? I said, yeah, I was looking on-line, and they had it for 300 with lights. He said, "You gotta support your local LFS." "We can't get you good fish unless we mark up our dry goods alot."
After that, I decided it wasn't worth even shopping there for drygoods unless it is a small immediate necessity. If they'd drop their profit margin on their goods, they'd be able to gain atleast me as a customer, and I'm sure many others. I'm all for supporting the LFS, if they give you reason to support them. I've been to an awesome LFS down in tampa that sells his dry goods at just about on-line prices, and just marks up his incredibly healthy and versatile supply of livestock accordingly. But I'd much rather pay the price for quality livestock, than more money for the same dry good.
