I've never run a Mag 7, but I run a Mag 9.5 as the return on my 65 gallon tank, and have to say it's been the quietest, most reliable pump I've owned to date. I run it submerged in the sump, and notice very little heat transfer. The maintenance is fairly easy on this pump.
