well, not necessarily, he just may not have enough zooxanthellae currently, so while he is growing more he is reaching for light to compensate. but it wouldnt hurt to move him up a couple inches or angle the rock he's on to point more towards the light unfortunatly for viewing purposes in the front of the tank the angle is often the worst for light gathering animals.
as a side note; my red mushrooms LOVE light I have some rather large ones less than 8 inches from the top of my tank and I am running 440w of vho and 96w of PC.
