Ok, I have found going three ways with my 180 gallon.
1. An aggresive set up with an anttenea(sp?)lion, an eel of which I haven't choosen yet(but blue ribbon is a fav. on my list), maybe a panther grouper if you guys can tell me if anything can survive in the tank or the sea goblin or leaf scorpion. Those are all just ideas of the fish for that kind of setup.
2. I will do a typical setup of a huge live rock in the center and maybe throw in some cardinals, clown fish, tangs, a moorish idol, and others much like those and with color. O, I will also be putting a great baracuda in with these fish . I want a red general starfish or others just as beautiful as this one!, and many other assorted inverts.
3. Doing a freshwater tank, but this is only if a budget comes into mind that I can't afford.
I wanted to know what I should I do for the filteration and lighting. I can't seem to find anything on this anywhere. I read the step by step proccess on this site about how to setup your tank and I didn't get much from that. I found the general idea of what things do and thats about all I find on the internet.
Heres what I need to know:
What does FOWLR mean?
When is a protein skimmer needed?
How much filteration does my 180 gallon tank need and whats your favorite reliable brand?
What exactly do you feed the non aggressive fish? Flakes or what?
What setup should I use the UV sterilizer(or whatever it is) with?
Does the Deep Sand Bed help with the cycling? I do plan on using live sand and live rock in this tank.
What does the overflow do and why do I need one?
I only plan on spending around $4000 for this set up. The tank, stand, and canopy alone will cost me $1300 because I want a new one rather than used.
