Whe I first got my seahorse, my intake flow filter sucked him in. Fortunately I found him in time. I bought some plexi glass and built shields around the intake flows to prevent any more disaters.
After 2 days pasted I finally began to relax, no more worries..or so I thought. A week latter I did a quick water change. The water was barely half and inch over the top of the shield. I went to take one last look at the tank before I went to bed. One problem......no Valiant. After a few moments of panic I found him- Inside the shield!!!!! I pulled the shield out and he swam out...or should I say slunk out. I've had many, many animals- dogs, cats, iguanas all of which have shown signs of guilt when they know they have done something they shouldn't have, even fish.
When Valiant swam out of the shield his head was bowed down and his tail dragging behind him. I know most people attribute this to attching human emotions to their pets.....but I have been proven wrong to many times by my animals to think other wise. Because I caught the little horse in the act!!!!!
I had just topped the water off again and settled down to a relaxing evening. From time to time I would glance at the tank enjoying the fish and corals. Then I noticed Valiant drifting to the back side of the tank....right infront of the shield....
He lingered there for a minute or so swimming about...innocently...and when he thought no one was looking he proceeded to swim backwards toward the shield....I watched in disbelief...what was he doing? Valiant swam backward until he bumped into the shield. Then he hooked his tail on the top of the shield......my "maternal instincts" took over...I knew exactly what he was going to do...but I was to late. With his tail Valiant hoisted himself up and over the top of the shield. I tried to scoop him up, but he slipped through my fingers, using end of his tail to push off my hand and finish his decent into the shield.
I completely disassembled the shield. Valiant slowly swam from behind the rocks.....head bowed...tail trailing behind him.....I can only guess what drew his curiosity.....but there was no dought in my mind that he was aware that his actions were not good.....very similar to a 2 year old. :happyfish
