I'm a scuba diver. It was on one of my first ocean dives in Aruba when I was fighting current and I looked down at the corals. There was a teeny tiny trigger and an equally tiny cowfish playing over the corals...I fell in love and decided that I wanted a little piece of ocean to look at and take care of every day...Yeah, this hobby is the best...I SO have that dive logged in my diver's log book and refer to it often...
p.s...I currently have a 37gal tall reef. After my next trip in March (to Cozumel...for diving) I plan on setting up a brand new 46gal bowfront...I gotta stay with space constraints. My 37gal will then become an awesome (I hope) seahorse tank.

i always liked to look at fish when i was a kid but never had a tank. a few years ago i got a betta. then i bought a 10 gal and set up a brackish tank for my 2 green spot puffers. from there i was given a 55 gal tank with cichlids which i kept for awhile then converted into a saltwater tank. after that i bought another 10 gal tank to use as a qt tank. this past monday i went to someones house and picked up another free-be 55 gal tank which i am going to set up when i get a chance. after the holidays i am going to be looking for a used 110 gal - 150 gal set up....hopefully reef ready...this hobby is very addictive.

Im right there with MonaLisa, I have always lived in florida on the coast. The water is my life. I am also a scuba diver and love fishing. I guess I couldn't get enough marine life on the weekends so I bought it to my home.

Well I used to have these ditches with all these minnows and guppies crawfish and turtles in it. when I was a kid. So We talked my dad into getting a 10 gallon tank and we would spend out summer days with 5 gallon buckets trying to catch these fish. We would create traps and all this stuff. It was stocked full of minows. Guppies goldfish, turtles tadpoles Crawfish. And well it got worse from there. now I'm a full blown aquariholic. I need to join a group or something. Cause my last tank which I'm still adding on :joy: to cost enough were I didn't go to summer school and have to stay in college another whole symester. LOL

LUCKY...as you can guess, most of my yearly diving here is in very extreme conditions, low vis, cold water...gotta love it though. The last time I was in the water (beginning of October) the vis was MAYBE 3 feet...ha ha!! Talk about challenging!!
Oops, sorry, don't mean to hijack

Parents bought me a 20 gallon fW tank when I was about 8. Bought me my first SW tank for my 16th birthday. Listened to pet stores, tank was a failure, pest control people got poison in it and finished it off...
Got certified to dive and took a trip to Australia. Found this site, read a lot of books, got a tremendous deal on a 210 a couple of years ago and been going since. Had my 210 at my office. Loved explaining how it all worked and what I was learning with my youth.

Well, I don't have to pick up or worry about stepping on it's crap, I don't have to vaccinate or neuter or spay it, I don't have to worry about taking it for walks or petting it frequently. I don't have to brush/comb it and deal with shedding. I don't have to worry about it sticking it's nose in people's crotches or chewing up furniture or shoes. I don't have to bathe it ever. I don't have to worry about me or other people getting bitten or injured (for the most part, those with triggers and lionfish don't get this luxury). It can't piss me off by barking or scratching constantly. What else......oh yeah, the fish I usually keep are beautifully colored.

8 years ago we moved from south florida to montana. My husband and I dive and we both missed the ocean.
Fast foward 2 years and I am 7 months pregnant, EXTREMELY BIG and on bed rest. My husband had many ideas for christmas presents that year but all of them were very depressing. He though about a car stero for my car but I couldn't fit behind the wheel, nor was allowed out (bed rest) I was pretty down in the dumps at this point as I had to take insulin shots every few hours and medicine several times a day to hold off labor, that made me feel yucky. Usually a sweater is a good idea for me (love sweaters) but being as big as I was that wasn't a good idea. He really wanted to do something special to make me feel better.
My mom was spending a bunch of time in the house trying to help out. One night we were talking about the salt tank my father used to keep. My dad and all his friends were really into the hobby way back when. Apparantly my husband over heard us talking about how when I was a kid I'd spend hours watching the tank.
Well if you have'nt figured it out yet, that christams Santa left me a 75 gallon system fully equiped! He got it from a friend that was getting rid of his tank, so they transported everything in buckets, and just like that instant ocean!!!!!
I've been addicted ever since, the 75 gallon is now the sump/fuge for my 120 and we are currently building an addition that will have our 450 gallon agressive tank in it!
