What GPS do you use?

The family and I are planning a road trip from eastern Ohio to Los Angeles by car. I can't wait to see the sites. Anyways, do you use a GPS unit? If so, what brand and model? I am thinking about upgrading mine and just want some opinions from ya'll. Thanks

We bought the Garmin Nuvi about a year ago, her name is Linda. She is gotten us where we need to go without problems. My bro in law bought a Tom Tom, not sure of the model. They like is also. Her name escapes me.

I use Garmin as well, wide-screen. Gets me where I need to go, points me to restaurants, gas stations, pharmacies, grocery stores, whatever. Lets me know what the speed limit is, and how fast I am actually going, how long it will take to get to my destination, and recalculates this if I make a stop.

Garmin here, got a killer deal on a widescreen one at Amazon, 99 bux. Down side is they burn you on the map updates, 80 bux which is why I bought the new one. Why pay 80 to update a 2 year old unit when you can get a new one for 100.00 that's better.

but really, how many maps need that much updating. The only time I saw where that would really be needed would be like the situation we had here in STL for 2 years. Major highway 64 in both directions shut down for several miles to be rebuilt.
There were major amounts of detour signs and 3 detours offered. We always check highway patrol before we make a big trip anyway, just in case. Linda is a widescreen also. The only place she got mixed up was in Branson where there are several dead ends due to the streets that are off shoots to main hwy. Terrible, crowded, bumper to bumper traffic. Walmart on line offers better deals sometimes than in the stores, plus almost free shipping/or even free

Got a couple of year old Magellan. Doesnt have too many bells and whistles but it works great and gets me where I'm going.

Linda does rhyme like that occasionally. But I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a GPS that sound like George Clooney. Oh...............

There were a few times this one brain farted routes on the wife which is why she was looking at updating the maps. The one in my truck has an older map but it isn't a big thing, usually only use it for long distance trips and the interstates and such don't change very often

There are cheaper ones that you can hack into and change the text which is fun to do. Of course my kids couldn't be in the car with all of what my device was saying. I only got this cheap one for fun.
I have had my Garmin for a couple of years now and have never updated the maps. I have been to places where the roads have changed and the garmin gets confused but I always seem to get back on track with no problems.

Garmin 265WT The W means wide screen and the T means we get traffic reports. Can be useful when driving through Los Angeles. Pretty good unit, and on trips like you are taking it is good to be able to find a place to stop for food or whatever on the way. Sometimes it will take you on a kind of funky route, but you do get there. They used to have ads for the Tom Toms that were super annoying. I vowed never to buy one just because of those ads so when it came time to buy a GPS I never even considered them.
