im thinking of getting a 12g nano tank. which brings me to the "what if" stage. i was thinking to myself what if i had it:
Wat fish would i put in it?
how many fish?
wat coral or rock or watever?
If any1 has any good ideas of wat stuff i should put in my tank if i ever get please share them with me. Thanks

you could get a firefish goby and 2 or 3 clown gobys imo.
Corals would depend heavily on lighting. Most of the nano's stock lighting will support all softy's, so you could go with xena mushrooms some zoas, that type of thing.
your gonna need around 10lbs of sand and 10-15 lbs of live rock easily.
Tell us what kinda fish and corals you like and most of us on here can point you in a better direction.

That is kind of a broad topic. Look at any of the pics people have posted of their 12 gallons. There are a lot of choices and they all hinge on what you like as a keeper.
As to numbers of fish I'm of the opinion that less is more. Something like one shrimp goby paired with a pistol would be a great option. The relationship is interesting and you can still do basically anything you want with your corals and have very little to worry about in the way of bio-load and excess nitrates which lead to algae.
I've seen nanos that are devoted to single types of corals as well that look quite stunning. One of my favorites of all time had nothing but bright orange riccordias covering every bit of rock and a couple clown gobies. A tank full of xenias looks like a forest of coral dancing in the waves and is very impressive.
Variety isn't a bad thing either. There are a lot of great tank pics on here of community fish and corals. It is all about what you like.

If you get the pair of percs you probably couldn't add anymore fish, if anything a very small shrimpgoby or something.

i have a 55g and now im starting up my 12g nano again...im putting in roughtly 8-10lbs lr, ls and for fish i plan on 2 paired clowns and a yellow watchman...and a few inverts for cleanup...thats all you really need. if you want corals you have to get a new top to your nano and they ARENT cheap. so if you go the $$$ then get the upgraded top if not then better off with fish/invert/lr. also you shouldnt go over 2-3 fish in a 12....either start with a goby then couple weeks later get your pair of clowns or vice versa....dont get all 3 at once...bio overload
