What is a basement sump

Does this mean that it is in your cabinet under your aquarium or is it literally in the basement ?

a basement sump is in the basement but its the same thing as the one that goes under the tank but usually much much bigger.

Can mean either, but traditionally it does mean in the basement level. Many people on these forums, including myself, have sump/refugiums in our basements.
