what is considered high lights?

I have a 30g long tank with 144 watt power compact lights (4.8 watts per gallon). Is this high or are metal halides the only way to get high?

I will be running 380 watts of vho over a 45 gallon reef. I dont think you would want to run halides over a tank that smaall. The heat from them would make evaporation out of control. Just my thoughts though. good luck ricky
