i keep hearing about coraline and how good it is for the tank, what is it and how can you tell if your tank is making it , i know its a dumb question but i would like to learn all i can about this hobby thanks
coraline is a type of algae you have probably seen it on lr it is the thin purple stuff that is so pretty do a search you will find some good info hope this helps
you will know if you have coraline growing. The most common form of coraline is a purple solid layer on top of your rock. If you use your fingernail with regular pressure you will not be able to scrape off the algea from the rock. To have coraline grow you need to have your water parameters at the right levels. Keep your phospates down and if you start to add reef additives such as calcium magnesium strontium it will speed up the process. Don't add anything your not testing for if you overdose you will be sorry later. Hope this helps
Coralline Algae is an encrusting algae. Your tank doesn't make it...it grows. Your tank provides a conducive environement for it to grow. It is various colors, reds, purples, greens, oranges, and so on...and usually comes on live rock. Some people introduce it into their tanks by purchasing coralline algae plugs...
