What is happening?

Well I came back from vacation (away for two days) and all my brown alege was gone. The rocks looked "clean" again. Then there was one rock with green on it. A very dark shade of green. No hair like stuff tho. And the red (possible cyno) stuff on the sand slightly increased... but on the largest rock it was ren and stringy. ? What does all this mean?
Now here are my readings, which have not changed really from when I left on Sat. Ammonia .25, Nitiries 0 , and Nirates 0. Why is it that the Nitrites are not spiking
Thanks for the imput guys.
In case anyone was wondering where I took vacation I was at the Pocono 500 Nascar Race!!!!! Any nascar fans out there
Thanks again

Brown algae feeds on phosphates (and other stuff LOL). As the phosphates are consumed it dies out and is replace with green algae. Normal part of cycling the tank.

Not yet. The little guys need lotsa algae to eat. If you could add macro algae, then you may not even have the micro algae at all.

yeah, hold off on the clean up crew until ammonia and nitrites are both 0. how long has the tank been cycling?

every tank cycles different and weird things happen. has anything died in that tank? (ie could there be something producing ammonia)? and how much faith do you have in your test kit? if you haven't already have your lfs check your water--you may have an old test kit. (I was getting high-fatal-readings for nitrites for the longest time and it always scared me but the fish seemed fine. finally had the fish store check my water and nitrites were 0. i just had an old test kit...)

TANK HAS BEEN CYCLING FOR ABOUT 3 WKS NOW. I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY NITRITES HAVE NOT SPIKED YET???

could be lack of bioload. My ammonia kit is extremely hard to read at low levels. I would add a single mollie and not feed it for a week. Betcha you will notice nitrites then LOL.

absolutely not. do not add a fish with your ammonia levels that high...it's just not humane. wait it out...if you really feel like your cycle still needs a kick in the pants perhaps try adding a couple more lbs of live rock...

If you are reading ammonia then do not throw in fish so they can get ammonia burns and spike the levels even more. If you have rock then your rock( biological filter ) may have been able to handle the nitrite right off the bat since it was live rock when you put it in the tank. Give your tank some time to do it's thing. Your rock will keep the nitrogen cycle going since stuff is always diying off on live rock even years after it's been in a tank.
