What is ick?

Im cerious to find ut what this is. i hear alot of talk on the deaseses and treament forum about this. my Questions are:
What is ick?
what are the symtoms?
How do you treat it?
None of my fish have it...i think. i just want to be on the safe side and know if any of my fish have it.THANX!

Ick is a marine fungus. The affected fish's markings will usually darken, show a loss of appetite and its skin will have a sandpaper like appearence. Most anitfungal medicenes rarely work the best thing to do is soak its food in Phenoxetol and hope it eats.

Although that is a good explaination,it is false.Let's think about the new people that may be looking at this and think it is true.ICH is a parasite,and has been discussed here more than probably any other subject.So doa little reading and you will get your answer...

at the very least please tell any new person that reads this thread....
Ick is a infectious Protozoan which can invade into the skin of a fish. It has a well defined life cycle in which it has a free swimming form that allows it to infect other fish. Fish which contract ick can present w/ these symptoms (white dots of various size and number, increased mucus, white patches, scratching), and there are two efffective treatments, hyposalinity and copperbased medicines.
Now please do an archive search. Those articles Beth mentions are an excellent start.

Ok. i will look it up. I thought i was talking about ick...not ich. are these the same things? and Mr. Salty, i rarely see any of your posts. this is your first post to me. are you busy or somthin? You really seem to have GREAT Advice! i have read some of other peopls post called Mr . SALTY! I didnt know you built hover crafts! thats sooooo cool! wish i could do that!

I tried looking on the archieves, but all i saw was stress in fish part 1-8. i will look on the deseases forum now.

Thanks beth! i read the forum below! helped alot. I was talking about ick. not ich. are these the same things? what i meant by ut(it was what, just misspelled it) was what are the symtoms?, how do you treat it? and whatwas ick? I dont really get your last post, can you eplain it better?

Bubbles, if you're serious, then you should ask Sammystingray. He is an expert on Ich and can give you extensive details about this disease and how it relates to Ick. Ich is actually something that he is particularily interested in and I know he will be glad to help you out with this topic.

Thanks everybody! now I now what ick/ich is. Oh, and Anthem, you didn't have to go in great detail over the spelling ang grammer.

Anthem, your acting like my teacher! is there a spelling and grammer check on here? if there isnt, there should be! like Microsoft Word, they have a spelling and grammer check, why cant this? ;)

Instead of typing your text here, just type it on the word processor, then do the spell check. The fact is, if you would just re-read what you type and make the corrections, you would probably be able to catch most of the obvious errors. But, anyhow....after you finish with the your text in the word processor, highlight all of it, copy, then come over to SWF.com and paste your reply into the post.
