What is my blackcap basslet doing?

Last night I noticed my blackcap kept going under a rock and then coming back out spitting out big mouthfuls of sand. Is he digging a cave? I've had him for about four months and I've never seen him do this before.

Ive Had one now for 3 months and noticed the same thing, they burrow under a rock to make their home and spit the sand where its most convienent for them :hilarious
Mine would spit the sand all over my sun polyps rock.... :notsure: He is still one of my favs, question though on their body do you noticed white scales embedded in their purple color..??
Im wondering if this is ick or just part of their coloring...i havent noticed any scratching or not eating, and it doesnt look like white spots like ick does its more blended with its color ..... :thinking:

I haven't noticed the white scales. Mine does have lines around it's face though that kind of mimic HLLE.
