I'm new to reef but have been keeping freshwater systems for some time.Like freshwater plants coraline algae competes with the other nasty's like green slime and hair for nutrients.Thus when you got healthy coraline growth the bad stuff has little to feed on.Unless you over feed your system or something dies and you dont find the corpse.
