What is the best Saltwater Hang on the back Filter

I'm new in Marine Fish. I currently have a 29 Gallon Tank with 55 lbs of Live Rock and 25 lbs Live Sand. I am currently using a Dual Whisper Filter with a Bio-Filter foam pad in it. I want to purchase a better filter, which is the best?
2nd, Would a CBR BAK-PAK Protien Skimmer do fine in this tank as well?

I have a Remora protein skimmer with the optional surface pre-skimmer and bubble trap that's very similiar to the BAK-PAK and I highly recommend either one.

i used to have one of those whispers on my tank and noticed my nitrates were always high. i am quite sure it was due to the fact that the filter pads kept trapping excess food. i got rid of it and got a skimmer and havent had any problems thus far

I have a emperor and a bak-pak2 skimmer and the two work awesome.
