you dont have to have live rock in your tank if it's fish only but it would be beneficial to have tho! in a reef tank it's almost always a must have!! for a 55 gal i would put 60-65 lbs of live rock. HTH

You don't have to have anything in your tank that you don't want. But live rock is a good natural filtration along with hidding spots for your fish. and so on.. I've only had my saltwater tank up for about 2 months and the live rock is one of the best parts of the tank IMO it is so neat being able to see stuff grow off of it and out of it. I love being able to look into the tank and see something different hangin out.

The LR is very benificial to your tank, IMO it makes your tank look more real. Hundreds of timy organisms live on and in the rock wich helps with natural filteration. And then you get lots of things grow on it like mushrooms, feather dusters, different coloerd algea, plants, ect. You should have 1-2 Lbs of LR for every gallon.

you dont need it for a fo but i wouldnt go w/o it. i would check out lr packeges most of the time its 1-2 lbs/gall. if its going to be your main filtration along with a dsb then you want it on the higher side. if not then you can get away with less.
