What is the quietest filter out there?

The quietest filters, IMO, are canisters and HOB style. However, neither is the most effective filter.
If noise is a big concern, I'd use at least 1.5-2lbs of Live Rock/gallon, then use internal powerheads (quite a few) for water movement. Put a Marineland Bio-wheel HOB filter on the back with no media other that the bio-wheels as an extra kick of biological filtration, and finally an HOB skimmer such as the AquaC Remora, on a timer so it shuts off during sleeping hours .
