what is the "red" stuff

Hi all:
I set up a 75g tank in March of 2003.
There was live rock in my tank but I took it out
to do hypo.
What is the red stuff growing on my dead rock and sand?
Is it good or bad?

cyano bacteria it is, how old is tank and what is your water quality like? what kind of water movement do you have and what kind of water do you use? these will help us determine what you need to do to fix the problem.

ur not getting enouph circulation in ur tank, u need more pumps. i had that same problem when i was a begginer.make sure u have circulation pumps in the middle, top, and bottom on seperate sides of the tank.
