What is this NO CYCLE stuff?

Someone mentioned in a previous post, a product that would reduce or bypass cycling time altogether. I'm almost positive that one of the sharks had used the product and supported its use. Does anyone recall the name of this product and if you have used it...pros and cons!?! Thanks for you help! :)

I wouldn't trust anything that skips a cycle process. Its not natural and rushing is deadly. Take the extra time and do a proper cycle.

i definatly agree that skipping the cycle will leave you with a biologically unstable system...the whole point of a cycle is the build up the bacteria in your system that will later keep your water conditions stable. i know of know other "magical" way of achieving this and would shy away from products that sound to good to be true.

It was me.. It's an awesome product. Natures ocean makes it. It's pretty expensive though around 35-40$ for a 20 pound bag. It's live sand that already has bacteria growing on it. You have to add 1 pound per gallon of water or close to it. It helps speed up cycling because the sand already has the bacteria growing and is covered in biofilm. I still wouldn't put expensive fish in the tank for at least a month though. If you start a tank w/ this stuff. I'd use it as the instructions say and put live rock in the tank also. TJ

Thanks TJ...that's what I wanted to know. What about the others not trusting the product...did you experience any setbacks whatsoever?? :)

I also have used this product, and had no problems.I used it when I switched from CC in my established 130 fowlr. Believe me,if this stuff was not as good as they say,My tank surly would have recycled. But it did not.By the way,You can get this sand from this site.

When you mentioned stuff and bypassing cycling I thought of the products people ask about that cycle tanks in 24 hours. What you talking about will speed up the cycle and is a great product.

I experienced NO setbacks. I used it for a 10g. tank. Brand new and the thing never cycled. I used 10 pounds of the sand and 10 pounds of cured live rock from my big tank. I put inverts in the tank the next day and they lived w/ no problems. TJ

I just used 40lb of this stuff to switch from CC to LS. I have had no problems or setbacks at all. My fish seem to love this stuff compared to the CC. At least now my grammas can burrow a hole under my coral without killing themselves trying to move CC!
I would highly recommend using it in an established tank. This way at least you have some bacteria in your filter and the water. For a new tank, I would start the old fashioned way, WAIT! :)

So, some of you guys are saying, yes, put it in a new tank...others say only if placing in an established tank. Which is it...you guys have confused me somewhat! lol :D

I just added 40lbs of this to my tank (switching from CC) and I've experienced mixed results. I had one snail die...other three are doing ok. My anenome is doing fine, but I am also starting to get a pinkish brom color on the top of the sand. I had a problem with my cc with either bron alge or diatoms which ever and so I switched and it looks like my problem is continueing. I left a small layer of CC on the bottom (my tank is 29 gals) and I only have 5lbs of live rock in the tank. I put in a green chromis and he seems to be fine after a week. Not sure if my tank was in the middle of a cycle when I switched and is just finishing it or what. I do like the look better though.
