what is this thing?! moving flat shell... should i remove it? XP

i have NO CLUE what this thing is!!! If I didnt catch it on camera I wouldve thought I was seeing things because when i went back to see it again it was gone, now today after work its reappeared in another place in the tank. Before it "Disappears" again do i need to remove it?

are they good?? did it likely come from the rock? I certainly didnt "buy" it lol... where did it come from?

Agreed. Limpet shells are a solid piece... chitons are made of of 8 pieces so they mold better to the contours of the rock that you can see it doing in the pictures above. Cool critter... keep it.
I killed my recently with a nitrate jump.... a hate loosing my critters :-(

Actually, abalones look a little different from that. I have a pic on my home computer but I'm at work. I live next to Abalone Cove, and although you can't collect them, you can pick them up if you are skilled, to inspect and take pictures of.
I'm not skilled... they clamp before I can get them off the surface, but the hubby is particularily good at it.
I'm certain that is a chiton in the pic.

lol ive tired to remove some too. almost broke my finger nail off.
