what is this?

Got some LR from a friend and found this on it, anyone know what it is? The LFS says it is an algae that is sought after by many saltwater hobbyists. It grows pretty quick and I don't want to throw it away if others need it or want it!!

From the pic I would say taht it is an algae, probably a Caulerpa of some kind, but another picture is needed to be sure.
Yes Caulerpa is sought after by many, because it can reduce phosphates and nitrates, but most people put it in their sump, becasue they dont like the look of it.

Another thing about Caulerpa is that it can "go sexual" releasing a bunch of slime that you really don't want for your tank.
That's really the main reason people opt for Chaeto instead.

yep, but I still would opt for caulerpa anyday. JMO
