Yes I bought a frag at the pet store. She said it was a hard coral and suggested I try one? Any info?

Well if it is an Acan, it is a LPS coral. I would suggest that in the future you do some research on the care needs for anything you want for your tank prior to the purchase.
I would also take with a grain of salt anything else that fish store told you in the future.

it is most def a lobo frag(IMO lol) cant really see the skeleton good but acan have a very distinct skeleton and if it was a single polyp frag, the side would look different..how big is it? either way lobo or acan super easy to care for, low-mid light mid water does them best. def do your homework before bringing an "easy" anything home. i got an "easy" elegance coral or so i was told( an honest rookie mistake at the time lol) o, just put iton a flat rock or in the sand. itll be fine.. lol....yea.. i got a really nice elegance coral skeleton thats just LR now.

acan lord I found out and smarttori---125 gallon set up 8 years ago----150# live rock. Foxface, yellow tang, blue hippo, strawberry basslett, sailfin tang, flame angel, lightfoot sally crab, urchin, various mushrooms. I am just starting corals as I've had fish only for 8 years

It's definitely an acan (Acanthastrea lordhowensis would be my guess.) You can see from the structurem, especially the flesh, that it is an acan. They're not too difficult to care for. If you feed them mysis shrimp, they'll grow quickly.

i love corals lol. i love fish too but im a reefer to heart lol there are just so many different types and colors. Since you are just getting into corals, any particular type specifically? SPS, LPS? i like the look of things swaying in the water, and expanding and contracting so i went LPS/soft with a couple leathers but im planning on getting a couple SPS(probably encrusting and or plating monti's but i do like branching hydnophora lol so so many possibilities).

There are so many possibilities and I'm really not sure yet. I do not know a whole lot about any of them and that is why I am here. Any advice for a beginner? I like lots of color

i dont think any corals are reeeaalllly hard to take care of, some just need different things than others,so it boils down to how much timeenergy and $$ do you want to spend on your tank (IMPO) I personally like inverts and corals(lps/soft & leathers) more than fish so i dont have alot of fish in my tank, jut a couple to accent the corals and to help keep up the bio filter. What type of lighting do you have? That will make a big difference in being able to support mushrooms or anemone's and sps's depending on tank size.
