This thing is goofy lookin. I know it's some type of algae, but what and is it bad news? If so how do I get rid of it?

Thats bubble algae. Some people say emeralds eat it. One way you can get rid of it is to pop the bubble, OUT OF THE TANK, then run over it with seperate saltwater to get any residue of the algae off. Then scrub its area with a tooth brush, rinse in SW again. Done.

That is bubble algea and usually comes in on your rock. Do a search and you will find plenty of info on it. If that is the only one you have, you can take the rock out of the tank, carefully pull it off and rinse the rock in saltwater before putting it back. Be careful not the bust it and if you do, make sure you really rinse the rock well.

I just posted a thread on this yesterday and was wondering how fast it spreads. I have heard horror stories on this site but this is my first run in with it. Will it automatically spread all over? Also what causes it? I haven't put any new lr in my tank in a couple months.

I'm not sure how fast it spreads. I had some come in on my Live Rock that I bought in October. I watched it for a few months and never noticed it spreading at all. I looked in my tank last weekend and it seems to have popped up everywhere overnight. Maybe something popped one and it spread, but I wish I would have taken it out now. I just added two emeralds to see if they will do anything.

One that size you should be able to remove carefully with your fingers. Still looking for an answer to that question. How does an Emerald crab eat those guys without breaking it.
