I just in one of my college classes thinking about how to cut costs and enjoy my reef more and I thought why have I read some mention about recycling tank water. Well I have searched tbh. What if you were to:
1: use a denitrification in water removed from tank during WC
2: run a uv in the container with the water, if unsure that it contains a parasite
3: rig a water pump to a rodi unit and presto recycled tank water
It shouldn't contain any dangerous metals as normal tap would so it would be less strain on the rodi unit. It will dirty the micron filter but some kind of prefilter can be established. So if you save all your water change water you can produce enought to replenish another clean water change, although it will need a large collected amount due to waste water. So what are your views on this logic?

If you're running a reef tank wouldn't the old water be depleted of neccesary minerals like calcium and magnesium?

Not conceivable for me...
Old saltwater contains many compounds not suited to reuse - such as terpenoid compounds and tannins. Old water is also minerally deficient - so you would not only have to add back to it the necessary calcium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate... but also the necessary amounts of iodine, strontium, molybdium, borate, etc. etc. that regular salt mix like instant ocean can provide.
Saltwater can be made at home for as cheap as $0.15 a gallon..... why would I want to put mineral deficient water back into my tank?
