Okay, I need to pick up a larger card for my camera.
I was in the thinking that "memory is memory". Apparently thats not true.
So what is a good brand of compact flash, and what speed should I look at?

Although I am new to this digital arena, it seems to me that SanDisk is a very reliable brand. I have the 128M card and am very happy with it at this point. The difference (from what I am told) between it and the "ultra" model is the speed. And the only time this is going to have a noticeable effect is A.) when taking rapid successive shots (i.e. holding down the shutter release), B.) transferring pics to the computer, or C.) deleting pics. As for recording, unless you have a high speed camera it wont make a difference cause if your camera cant write fast then whats the point of having a high speed card.
Just what I have been told . . . .
I have heard that there are some generic brands of CF I and II cards, but those statements always ended with "you get what you pay for"
Let me know what you find out, as I would like to get another card as well.

yup, the Ultra mode is just a little faster. I have a SanDisk 32mb that I got from someone, still good quality, just a little slower on high-speed pictures and various functions requiring it to read/write memory.
I'd say stick with SanDisk, Canon's compact flash is actually SanDisk as well (copyright SanDisk, private label as Canon).

Well so far I've just learned to avoid the PNY brand.

Why?

I have a 256mb Sandisk Ultra II and it seems well worth it for the extra speed. I have a 6.3mp camera so it seems to matter more since the files are much bigger than my old 4mp camera.
Look at Amazon for the same card only $60.00.
Best Buy sells them for $90.00 currently.
Search amazon with "SanDisk Ultra II 256 MB Compact Flash Memory Card"
http://www.amazon.com

Online reviews were all saying that it currupts quickly and frequently. It supposedly is warrantied for life but many people stated they had problems contacting the company or getting them to honor it.
Not sure if this is mumbo-jumbo but I seen an review stating that the "CASS Latency" is the speed/quallity of the memory which affects its cost. The slower Cass is being used in the cheaper brands. Supposedly; PNY, EDGE, and LEXAR are all "cheap" brands. While KINGSTON, SANDISK, and PEN DRIVE are the higher quality brands.
