ok so i went to a LFS today and was looking at all the nice corals just to get an idea for what types i would like and i found that i like all the Zoa's and that i really didnt find any others that good looking(just my opinion). so i have been looking at lights for a while but i was looking for one that is for anenomies. but no i really dont want one as much as i though. i would like to know what type of light i would need to support the zoa's?
i have a 55g tank
been up and running for almost a year and a half
and this was the light i was looking at but i think it would be over kill for just zoa's. i think but not 100%
48" Current USA 6x54W Nova Extreme Pro T5 HO Fixture
any help would be great. i really would like to get some zoa's soon.

would that light be overkill for just zoas?
cuz the light cost about $400 b4 shipping andif its overkill then i dont want to spend more than i have to for just lighting. i would rather have the extra cash for the zoa's themself.
thanks

Believe me I know the cost as I have that one. Maybe think of it this way.
Would you rather have it and not need it or need it and not have it. Just saying you may end up like so many of us, wanting more variety. I now
have two other lights in a closet collecting dust.

Trust me, other variety of coral will start to be more interesting to you, and your going to want them. Better to have the light now, then later. I also have 2 sets of lights collecting dust in the closet because i eventually decided i wanted to do acros. and such! Look around at some local reef clubs in your area, and see if there are any good sets for sell.

the light is for my dad and i really didnt want to spend $400 on a light so he can keep some zoa's in his tank. he really dosnt want to many in his tank. he only wants about 5 or 6 different typs and thats it. so i was trying to be a bare minimum for lighting. thats y i was trying to get a cheaper light. so idk if im gonna buy it for him or just tell him hes gotta spend $400 to have the few corals he needs. he likes the look of my tank is y he wants a few zoas

why is he getting a 55 gallon tank if all he thinks he wants is 5 patches of zoas? Mabye try to talk him into getting a 20 gallon, it would be amuch cheaper set up.

so something like this would work for him:
48" coralife power compact light system. 4x65watt PC bulbs. 2 actinic and 2 10,000k white

that will be fine if you just want to keep some zoas and some mushrooms. My opinion I would go with the NOVA due to once you start getting into corals and see all the awesome colors you will want more. Remember this hobby is cool with a FOWLR but trust me when you start adding corals it becomes very addicting and you want to get all the corals that you can get your hands on. just my .02
