what kind of water?

Is local drinking water sold in gallon size at local super markets good water to use for salt water tanks? or is that harmful? currently i have only been using tap water, what is catalina water? is it good? which would be better, catalina water or local gallon size drinking water sold at local super markets?

we've never used tap water in our 55gl tank. we buy the gl size jugs of water at the local store. save about 5-10 gls and simply refil them for .33 cents when it's time to do a water change.

No matter what the source is make sure the water is tested before hand, especially for nitrates and phosphates. Investing in an RO/DI unit is worth it for all but the smallest of tanks IMO.
