I realised I didn't answer the first part of your question. There are some fish that will enjoy the fine sand bottom, gobies/blennies/dragonette's will all do sand "sifting" they pluck a bunch of sand up and filter it out their gills, I think the wrasses that do sleep in the substrate will enjoy that a bit more also. I guess to clear up what I was trying to say is that one of the concerns in doing a dsb is that like a plenum, the anaerobic bacteria will of course release their gasses which come up through the sand bed and get carried away by the current. One possible issue is that their gasses will come up in enough concentration at night to drop the oxygen level in and immediately above the sb too low for a larger organism to survive. I read a number of articles expressing concern over this, and there was some loss of life apparently due to this. That's what I meant by a plenum, because it's much the same theory. To speak to one last thing, if I'm reading the posts right, I wouldn't consider the lsb a replacement for live rock. Most applications are using both, just maybe less lr. I would also recommend a dwarf angel as long as you have enough rock in there for him to claim a cave for his own. anyway, hope I cleared my thoughts up there. Is anyone actually using a dsb, and had it up for awhile who could speak to this concern?
