What other kinds of angelfish can I put with a Koran?

I've always wanted an emperor angel but my pet store never has the juvenile so since the koran looks like a emperor(juvenile) I got him. I want to know what other angels can be put in with the koran? I'm wondering mostly about the queen and the emperor angels. Is the koran a medium sized or large size angel? Thanks in advance!

The koran is in the genus Pomacanthus which is the largest (size) angelfish group. The Koran is a perfect beginner angel. I would try your luck w/ him first. If you were to get another angel I wouldn't get the emperor unless you have a huge tank like 180-500 gallons. The queen might not be a bad choice since it's in a different genus (Holacanthus) but you still will need a fairly good sized aquarium and you didn't add the angels at the same time so the Koran might be aggressive towards any other angel you put in. The queen is also better than the emperor because it's not as picky about water conditions or feeding. I have an emperor angel and I just got him 3 days ago. He's about 3 inch and still a juvenile. He is very picky about what he eats, but today I bought squid for him and he ate it right up.

My reading has revealed that you should not have more than one angel fish per tank, regardless of tank size. YOu may, however put some dwarf (pygmy) angels in with your Koran. Anyone agree, or did I read this info from a wrong source?
P.S. Enjoy your Koran, and have fun watching his pattern change as he matures. Aren't their eyes fun to watch?

My tank is 150 gallons. Would it be possible to have an emperor angel with a koran or would they not get along?

If you're going to try this (Emperor or Queen) do it now so they can get used to each other. But I wouldn't. Right about the dwarf angels though. A nice red flame angel would look great! How about getting a tang? The Naso or Achilles is great, grow large & will be fine with the Koran. If it's a FO tank you could also get a Niger trigger.

I totally agree with veskas in that you should get a tang, a pygmy angel, and niger trigger. tangs, pygmy angels, and triggers are my fav fish, so I am partial....

I really like tangs too! I already have a naso, hippo, and a yellow tang! I've been considering getting a niger trigger but I would rather get a clown trigger! The biggest problem I see with getting a emperor angel is that it looks just like the koran. As far as flame angels I haven't had good luck with them-I have a FO tank and I've heard they do better in a reef tank!? I must say that the koran angel seems a lot more aggressive than the emperor angel which is good because he's eating really good and when the yellow tang tries to bother him he just swims away-he's really fast. The emperor angels seem to just float around and not swim to much. Has anyone had a juvenile emperor angel for a while and had it when it turned to the adult emperor?

my purple tang tries to bother my emperor but he just swims away too. they seems like very mellow fish.. i've heard it will take a year or two for them to start turing and another year before they completely transform into the adult shape and color.

Hi,
I had an adult emperor for a number of years. He was in a FO with a number of other fish. They seem to do best when they are the dominant fish in the tank, mine wasn't very nice but he wasn't overly nasty either. Despite what books may say, I have found them to be a very hardy fish. The LFS I got it from said the same, I thought I'd give it a go (as this is a very reputable LFS, this guy knows his fish as well as anyone I've ever come across), and it worked very well. However, I wouldn't put him in with a Koran as they will probably beat the crap out of each other and you will end up with one or the other dead. A pygmy angel is OK, I had mine with a C. bicolor and they got along fine (the bicolor killed all other Centropyge though).
Also, in aquariums their colour often do not change at all, so if you buy a Koran and an Emperor you will end up with 2 very similarly coloured fishes. Even if they start to change, they often will not colour up all the way to adult pattern.
Regards,
Tom

putting in a dwarf angel isn't necessarily a good idea. I have a friend who put in a coral beauty w/ his koran and the koran killed it w/ in 24 hours. They were in a 90 gal. tank.

I haven't had good luck with flame angels so, I was considering getting a coral beauty and I was wondering how they are. Are they good eaters? Do they get along with other fish?
