SCWD might have a reliability issue over a period of time....Above is a good thread that might interest you.

Sorry here's another that might explain alittle more....

read some of the issues connected to SCWD but then on the other side I also read alot of people comments about never having any issues with it?
Willing to take the risk with the new 1" version as it is possible to take it apart and clean.
So what would be the best volume of pum,p to use for each individual CL pump and the size of the return pump?

You would be running a decent size CL pump something on the line of the Reeflo series, and I honestly don't believe the SCWD's will hold up to that kind of torture.....I would think something in the line of the Reeflo Barracuda , but the VFD controlled pumps IMHO would be something better to look at. Another option which I find a lot more reliable than the SCWD's would be the OceansMotions. The SCWD's as you've pointed out have more problems than good. Another thing look at the setups running the SCWD's and what pumps their using to push the flow.....An actuated ball valve(motorized) 2 way or 3 way would be another better alternative to the SCWD. Cost is a lot more, but IMO again more reliable....The cheaper/cheapest way around it would be the VFD controlled pump......

Sorry another reason I keep suggesting VFD controlled is from the start up of the tank with 3 CL seems like tons of flow which is good.....But might be a bit much, but as the tank grows in and matures with the system already setup, the pump frequencies can be altered with a little adjustment, and adjust the flow pattern and such accordingly......

Another thing I'm not real clear or sure of is why have all your feed bulkheads for the CL pumps located in 1 spot? If possible my not have them located different areas of the tank, so they are pulling water from different areas?

what would be the negative of the 3 outtakes being together.
They will be built into a seperate flow box as seen on the crawing?

No real negative just they are drawing water from the same area of the tank vs. Drawing water from different areas of the tank. What is the point of them being in a box???

I personally love SCWD's (am currently running three of the 3/4" model). I did have to remove one once to clean it out as it had algae in it before I began using black hose. I just ran tapwater thru it and it came out tho. I've used them with return pumps up to 900 gph.
That being said, Shawn makes a good point about beating them up with too much pump. The new system we're installing will use a OM 4-way driven by a Reeflo Dart.

Shawn,
Actually, I hadn't considered that, but we've had the OM (NIB) and a slightly-used Dart (bought on the cheap) sitting around for a few years just waiting for the "right" project (we were going to use it on a reef, but got out of reefing). That IS an interesting idea tho...maybe when we get to our in-wall large-bodied "lionfish lair"...
