I think you should start with just fish and LR and then slowly turn it into a reef.

I agree... go FOWLR and slowly turn it into a reef.
Or, if you don't already have a quarantine tank set up, I would use it for that.

If you go FOWLR eventually you'll go reef.
If you go FO eventually you'll go FOWLR.
If you go aggresive you'll be very limited in that tank.
Start FOWLR and go from there.
