How much flow do you want? IMHO, with that sump, I would be curious how much flow it can handle? I'm also not a fan of "all in one units". You would better off buying a sump and skimmer separately. You will just have more versatility down the road.
Approx. 10x would be a 1200 gph OF and then figure Head loss and match the correct pump. With Head I would think 1100gph would be good. Then add a few PH's to supplement flow. This should give you nice flow through the sump and then supplemental flow to pick up the rest.

I hope this open up since its a pdf but here is a copy of a blueprint to a box that I made. Its not really the size of the box but the size of the drain. I ran 2 x 1 1/2 pvc drain in my 125g

I have a 1200GPH overflow box and a Mag12 and they work great together. I supplement with (2) maxijet 900s' with mod kits.

well I'm done with adding anything to the tank as far as live stock- will not do any corals or anything being I have a Koran Angel- as far as flow in the tank I don't need anything extra from the sump being I have 3 #3 koralla's and 1 #4 for inside the tank flow- I know nothing in this hobby is cheap but trying to save a few bucks with the all in one system and the skimmer with this system isn't that bad from what I heard
But you think I'll be okay with a 1200 box and a mag 12?

If you are worried that the Mag12 isnt enough flow then you can move up to the Mag18. If you use the Mag18 then I would add a ball-valve to the return line just incase the Mag18 pushing more water then the 1200GPH overflow can keep up with you will be able to adjust the flow.

I know with an 18 you will have to reduce flow. Been there and had to really crank it down.
Yes I think you'll be just fine with a FO tank and that much flow.

Well if he wanted to get the mag18 then why wouldn't he just get the 1600gph overflowbox as i stated above, you wouldnt have to add a ball valve or decrease the flow. 4ft of headloss it would only be crankin out 1400gph and the overflow box can more than hadle tha

The question remains whether that particular sump will handle that much flow (18) w/o micro's getting back to the DT.
With a fish only tank and the supplemental flow that is all ready in place I see no reason to go with an 18.
Reef tank different story and might well be worth the chance with that much flow through the sump. But for what he/she has the 12 will work just fine.
