What snail is this?

Well I have had this guy a while and I think he came with some turbos I got form this site. But anyway I just got a new digital camera so I decided to see if I could find someone who new what he is. Here is the first pic.

Its an Astrea...well, was an Astrea. Now Astralium phoebium, the long spined star shell. I think... :D

Okay. Well sorry I didn't post the other pic my comp crashed before it was fully uploaded. But I'll post it now any way. So what is the deal? How did it change and what is the difference between the two besides the shell? Is this rare or common? Sounds very interesting.
Well I post the pic seperate incase my comp tries to do that again.

I believe they are very closely related, and live in basically the same area, doing very much the same stuff. So it is not uncommon to get different species mixed in there. This one used to be an "astea" the common snail in the hobby (but there are many similar species). Some taxonomist must have decided it was different enough in some way to warrant being put in a different genus. But in practical terms, its isn't much to worry about :D
