I also use it for the basics and they have never failed me. This master kit i'm looking at has Calcium, Carbonate Hardness (KH), Phosphate. Just not sure they can be trusted.
I..... just let my lfs do it for me for free lol.
I used to use API but it was costing me too much.
I go to LFS at least once or twice a week after church so I just have it checked every time while I'm there as well as free RO/DI WIN!

I use API for teh basics only....so the regular SW test kit is good enough IMO
I use Salifert for calcium, magnesium, and alk
+1 Salifert is pricey but imo they give pretty accurate results.
I use the api test kits for ammonia/nitrItes/nitrates/kh. At higher levels over 60 or 80ppm they are hard to read but at that levels it doesn't make much difference.
For mag/phosphate/calcium I like the salifert.
and the seachem kits for calcium and mag I do like because they include a test sample to test the kit with.
FWIW on thing to check for is how the nitrates are calibrated. Some (api) read total nitrates other only the nitrogen part. Which reads 1/4 or so of the total ion.
