What the heck is this cocoon???

I have this really weird thing growing it seems like a cocoon of some sort.
I put a filter sponge that measures like 6"x3"x3" in the tank for a pod and little bug haven...It's been in there for about a year.
It's pretty cool I have spotted some tiny stars and lots of pods thriving in it.
I decided to move it and look under it and to my surpise found a cocoon looking thing with something moving in it.
It measures 2cm when we first saw it and then it retracted into the sponge after being disdurbed.
What is this?!?!?!?

I don't know I just moved the sponge last night and noticed it for the first time.

Alright I moved the sponge to the fuge...I'll keep you all updated with anything new...I'm pretty sure it's a cocoon or egg case of some kind since I can see stuff moving inside of it.
