I have a 55gal reef tank. I have a black clown, blue damsel, hawkfish, royal grama. Im not sure what elsa I would like to add to it. I have had a potter angelfish at one time, enjoyed him but didn't live long. Don't want to add no tang.

I hate damsels, they are just too mean for me. I don't want any pet that bites me drawing blood.
Here is my stock list when I had a 55g:

  • 2 Perc Clowns

  • Fox Face Rabbit fish

  • TINY Blue Hippo tang (ich magnet in the beginning, but I love him and he now lives in my 90g)

  • Royal Gramma ( Now this is a pretty fish)
    Purple firefish
Red Knobby Starfish (needs a mature tank..so wait a year)
Rock anemone (not as light needy as the regular anemones)
Small fish are the key and choose one nice fancy one as a show piece. I must admit I liked the 75g much better than the 55g. It wasn't any longer but the width made all the difference. I later went with a 90g...still 48" but deeper and wider.
A Dwarf Angelfish will go nice in a 55g. I love the lemonpeel...some dwarfs are well behaved and some are not. So you take your chance with a reef. Mine doesn't bother anything. I think LPS corals are the ones to really watch with a dwarf.

How old is the damsel? If it's a mature fish, you might have problems adding any new additions to the tank, as most damsels are very aggressive.
I'd do a blenny and a dwarf angel. Potter's usually don't live that long, try a African Flameback or Coral beauty.

It's hit or miss with mixing gobies in my experience. I had a mated pair of Yellow Watchmen and the one decided to kill the other. My dragon is very peaceful, but the yellow watchmen still attacks him quite often. If you're set on having both, add them at the same time.
